In Okami, the player takes on the role of the legendary sun goddess Amaterasu, in the form of a wolf. Her mission is to restore color (or "life") to the world by destroying the monsters that stole it. Since Amaterasu is a goddess, there are naturally people who worship her and those who don't. The more people who worship her (as a result of her restoring color and other charitable works for them), the more powerful she becomes.
