On October 17, 1849, Frédéric Chopin, one of the most influential piano composers, died of illness at the age of 39. Three hours earlier, in the world according to this game, Chopin had a dream about a fantasy land inhabited by people with incurable diseases who also possess magical powers. Eternal Sonata takes place in this dream world. Chopin comes into contact with Polka, a young girl living with her mother in the village of Tenuto. Polka is close to death, and Chopin, Polka, and her young friend Allegretto search for a way to harness Polka's mighty powers to help her survive. It's a strange fantasy, but this game, created by developer tri-Crescendo, also features a complex combat system based on combining swords and magical weapons. The music and story contribute significantly to Eternal Sonata. Russian pianist Stanislav Bunin performs the melodies Chopin left to the world, with the musical composition by renowned video game composer Motoi Sakuraba. Originally released for Microsoft's Xbox 360, Eternal Sonata arrives on the PlayStation 3 system with a wide range of new content, new scenes, and features. The cast of playable characters expands with the addition of Serenade and Crescendo, and players can now customize the appearance of their party members with a variety of new costumes.
