Yokai City is a character-based visual novel
in the style of 1980s Japanese anime, set against a backdrop of uneasy social tension between humans and yokai forced to live together in one part of Tokyo.
The year is 1988. After thousands of years of conflict with humans, all remaining yokai have finally been persuaded to move to the center of Sumida: one of the capital's 23 wards. Now only the oni and inari remain; all other yokai species that once played an important role in Japan's history and folklore are now confined to existence in literature and film.
Step into the shoes of a half-human, half-oni detective (a law enforcement officer tasked with maintaining peace between humans and non-humans) and see how you and your team deal with daily life in 1980s Tokyo while trying to stop criminals and violent fanatics from both sides who seem intent on tearing the city apart.
