Whenever the fog hangs over the waters of Loch Orwell on Harlech Island, sailors see a ghostly castle just out of reach. As they draw near, it fades into the mist like a mirage, leaving only questions for anyone who has witnessed this “strange castle.”
A local legend has piqued the interest of a budding scholar named Charlotte L. Wells, who longs to study it personally—but of course, Harlech Island is no place for an unaccompanied young lady. So, to aid her investigation, she enlists the help of an old childhood friend and fallen knight who agrees to accompany her on this adventure.
Upon arriving in Harlech and almost immediately seeing Strangerock Castle, Char dives headfirst into the mystery, leaving her companion to explore the surroundings alone for any relics that might help trace the origins of this ephemeral stronghold.
Sadly, this almost immediately leads to his death at the hands of a mysterious swordsman who seems to be warped in time... but death will only be the beginning of his adventure.
Xanadu Next is an exploration-themed RPG from Nihon Falcom, the acclaimed creators of the Ys and The Legend of Heroes series.
