This story is set long after humans have contaminated the planet, where groundwater has become undrinkable and the sight of a living plant is a luxury. Most people live in megacities that rely on the labor of the impoverished masses to maintain a modern standard of living for the few at the top. With much of the earth scorched, water is considered liquid gold, and control over it is the truest form of power. Forced to cope with a perpetual water shortage, people continue to work in the hope that if they work hard enough, they, too, can take a morning dip in the refreshing garden pools.
We follow the story of Josephine Lees, a young hydraulic engineer who aspires to climb the corporate ladder and secure a place at the top. Until the day this promising future is torn away from her, leaving her half-dead and homeless, she becomes determined to overthrow the system that has destroyed her and left her heartless. Along the way, she meets a diverse group of people sympathetic to her cause, each with their own secrets. With their help, she seeks investigation, love, and revenge above all else.Minimum
