The game is a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, which was remade and included with the Assault on Dark Athena campaign. The game was released on April 7, 2009. A demo was released on Xbox Live on March 4, 2009, followed by a PlayStation Network release on March 12, 2009.
