: STALKER: Call of Pripyat takes place shortly after the end of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. After discovering the open road to the Zone Center, the government decides to implement a large-scale military operation called "Fairway" aimed at seizing control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
According to the operation plan, the 1st Military Group is to conduct aerial reconnaissance of the Zone to draw detailed maps of the locations of the anomalous fields. The main military forces will then be dispatched using the maps. Despite careful preparations, the operation fails. Most of the advance helicopters crash.
