Spriggan
is a manga series written by Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated by Ryūji Minagawa during the early 1990s. It was initially released under the name "Stryker" in the North American English translation, the English translation of the Celtic word spriggan. Spriggan takes place during the final years of the Cold War, where mysterious and unknown artifacts called "Out-of-Place Artifacts" (OOPArt) are discovered in various parts of the world, leading to a secret war between various forces against the ARCAM Corporation, an organization that has positioned itself as the guardians of the OOPArts in order to prevent their use as weapons. Spriggan was published in Shogakan's weekly manga magazines Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Shōnen Sunday Super. The manga was adapted into an anime film by studio 4°C in 1998. A PlayStation game based on the manga, Spriggan: Lunaverse, was also released, with some material created for the game. Plot: Many years ago, an ancient civilization known for its advanced technology ruled the Earth, but it was eventually destroyed due to its misuse. Therefore, they left messages for future generations in the form of indestructible message boards written in ancient Hebrew, telling them that if they could not find a good use for their creations, they should be destroyed. Paramilitaries, national armies, and armed special forces began secretly searching for these "mysterious artifacts" to use for themselves and against their enemies. ARCAM Corporation and its military wing, the ARCAM Private Army, can stop these forces from destroying themselves with their elite covert agents known as Spriggan (or Strykers). Game: On June 16, 1999, From Software released a version of Spriggan's video game in Japan and Asia for the PlayStation called "Spriggan: Luna Verse" with a starting street price of 6,090 yen. It can be played by one or two players. The game is divided into 16 missions, all of which are full of action. The game's soundtrack, composed by Keiichiro Segawa, Tsukasa Saito, and Yuji Kanda, was released by Absord Music Japan on November 26, 1999.
