This war is often remembered as the first intense conflict of the Cold War, but many people don't usually know much more than that.
Few know that the first year of the conflict was a fast-paced, dynamic, blitzkrieg-like struggle, with a surprise Northern invasion in the early summer of 1950 and a UN counteroffensive in the fall and early winter, followed by a massive counteroffensive led by Communist China in the winter and spring of the following year. After this active phase, the mobile aspect of the war was erased from memory by months of stasis and tense struggles along fortified defensive lines, reminiscent of the trench warfare of the Great War. The "hot" phase of the conflict finally ended in 1953 with a ceasefire, but the war was not officially over. Minimum
