of the game takes place on July 24, 1998, when a series of strange murders occurred in the suburbs of Raccoon City, in the Midwest. After contact with Bravo Team is lost, the Raccoon City Police Department's Special Tactics and Rescue Service (STARS ) are assigned to investigate . Alpha Team is dispatched to investigate their disappearance. Alpha Team locates Bravo Team's crashed helicopter and lands at the site, only to be attacked by a pack of savage dogs, killing one team member. After Alpha Team helicopter pilot Brad Vickers panics and takes off alone, the remaining members ( Jill Valentine , Chris Redfield , Albert Wesker , and Barry Burton ) take refuge in an abandoned mansion, where they split up. The player character ( Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine ) finds several members of Bravo Team , including Kenneth J.Sullivan, who is eaten by zombies; Richard Aiken, who is killed by a giant venomous snake or eaten by a shark; Forest Speyer, who is found dead and resurrected as a zombie; and Bravo Team leader Enrico Marini, who reveals that a member of Alpha Team is a traitor before being killed by an unseen shooter. Rebecca Chambers, a survivor of Bravo Team , joins Chris Redfield , as the player character learns that a series of illegal experiments have been conducted by a research team Confidential under the authority of the "Umbrella Corporation" Biomedical experiments, where the creatures that roam the mansion and its surrounding areas are the results of these experiments, which exposed the people and animals of the mansion to a highly contagious and mutagenic biological agent known as the "T-Virus" (Pandemic), where the player character discovers a secret underground laboratory containing the experiments of the "Umbrella Corporation". There, they find " Jill Valentine " or " Chris Redfield " in a cell and meet " Albert Wesker " programming a tyrant, a super soldier for humans, where Albert Wesker reveals himself to be a double agent working for the Umbrella Corporation, and plans to use the Tyrant to kill STARS members. In the ensuing confrontation, Albert Wesker is seemingly killed and the player character , the Tyrant , is defeated. After activating the lab's self-destruct system, the player character arrives at the helipad and contacts Brad Vickers to extract them, where the ending changes Depending on the player's actions at key points: In the best ending, the surviving team members escape by helicopter after the tyrant is defeated once again; in the worst ending, the palace remains intact and the player character is the sole survivor.
