Half a century after the Red Faction and their raider allies liberated Mars from the harsh Earth Defense Force, harmony on Mars is once again threatened, this time by a deadly force shrouded in mystery. When the massive Terraformer, which supplies Mars with its Earth-like air and weather, is destroyed, the atmosphere descends into chaos, and giant tornadoes and thunderstorms engulf the planet. To survive, the colonists flee underground into mines and build a network of habitable caves.
Five years later, Darius Mason, grandson of Martian revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samania, runs a lucrative business out of Bastion, the underground center of colonist activity. Mining, scavenging, working as a mercenary—if the job feels dangerous, Darius is the man. Few sane people now venture to the devastated surface, except for contractors like Darius and smugglers transporting goods between settlements.
When Darius is tricked into reopening a mysterious pillar in an ancient raider temple, he unleashes a long-dormant evil and unleashes apocalypse on Mars. As colonist and raider settlements are destroyed, only Darius and the Red Faction can save humanity.
