In 1952, in the early years of Aperture: Science Innovators, scientists at Cuff Johnson conducted experiments on whatever they wanted. Not every experiment worked out as planned, but that wasn't going to stop science! Unfortunately, Mel was involved in a flawed test called the Aperture: Science Innovators Short-Term Relaxation Vault, where she slept for years. When she finally woke up, a fake Cuff Johnson was telling her she needed to escape the facility and a new device called Aperture's Portable Portal Device, and her questions started racing. "Who is this impostor Cuff Johnson?" "What happened to the facility and its employees?"
