Porsche Challenge
is the first release from Sony Computer Entertainment's European division. Based on the Porsche Boxster, fans can experience driving and racing one of the most stunning Porsches to date. So, buckle up as you prepare to hit the gas pedal as you push one of the most powerful sports cars to its limits on test tracks located around the world. Powered by a 24-valve, straight-six engine with a double overhead camshaft, the Porsche Boxster is capable of accelerating from zero to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds. With 201 hp at 6,000 rpm and 181 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm, the Boxster is renowned for its incredible power and top speed of 200 km/h. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe was able to create the 3D model from engineering drawings from Porsche engineers and created the car, starting with real-time shading and lighting for maximum realism and impact. The Boxster Demo option allows players to watch a documentary about the creation of Porsche and the Boxster, with the history narrated from the perspective of the engineers themselves. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has also created four proving grounds for testing and racing the Boxster. These include the USA, Japan, the Alps, and Stuttgart, the official Porsche test track. These tracks have been further opened up to create a total of 20 track combinations by unlocking new tracks and racing the tracks in reverse. The single-player aspect of Porsche Challenge is divided into Practice, Time Trial, and Championship modes. The Championship features a total of 12 races with five other competitors in each race, as well as three different difficulty levels. The Dual Player option allows players to play either in a single race or Championship modes, with options for arcade or simulation-style play, where they can switch between them, compensate, and choose to delay one or two players. Players can also choose which driver they want to use, with each driver carrying a different-colored Boxster, as well as a different racing character. Options in Porsche Challenge include a CD player that allows for the alignment of the four electronic tracks provided with each circuit (tracks include "Asian Rhythms," "Alpine Funk," and "Hail to the Dragon"), output effects, music and sound effect volume, high scores, button configuration, and automatic and manual selections. English, French, and Italian languages are also available. Additionally, the game supports analog controls and uses only a single block of memory.
