While investigating reports
of illegal arms smuggling, peacekeepers encountered an unclassified species of carnivore occupying a small village in North Africa. These rabid creatures were easily provoked and resistant to conventional attacks. Eight specimens were found in the area now known as "Terrestrial: Alpha"... four of which were successfully contained for study. Victims of the attack were quarantined at a nearby research facility. These victims showed signs of internal decay and accelerated necrosis, similar to symptoms of other flesh-eating viruses native to that region.
But this wasn't a viral outbreak. It was a parasitic infection. A previously unidentified species of hookworm was found under the skin of the Terrestrial: Alpha specimens. These parasites, which we call "alpha worms," laid dozens of eggs inside their hosts, which in turn produced numerous larvae. These larvae penetrated the bloodstream and triggered a variety of genetic failures. However, unlike most genetic failures, these symptoms weren't fatal. Instead, the infected victims were larger, stronger... and driven by hunger. Using research from Earth: Alpha samples, a team of elite individuals was assembled. Minor outbreaks occurred over the next few years, but the elite squad quickly eradicated them. Which brings us to the current situation in Tokyo...Minimum
