attending the University of Washington, MLB 2K9 player Tim Lincecum won the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, given to the nation's top college baseball pitcher. He was selected 10th overall by the San Francisco Giants in 2006. Known to fans as "The Franchise" and "The Beast," Lincecum was named to the National League All-Star Team that season while putting up impressive numbers and leading the major leagues with 265 strikeouts. Lincecum also led the NL in other key pitching categories, including winning percentage (18-5, .783), opponent batting average (.221), and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (10.51), in addition to finishing second in earned run average (2.62). In recognition of all his historic accomplishments, Lincecum won the Players' Choice Award as the National League's top pitcher that season, as well as The Sporting News' National League Pitcher of the Year. Both awards were voted on by his teammates. Most importantly, Linscomb was today named the winner of the National League's Cy Young Award, given annually to the best pitcher in both the American League and the National League, voted on by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
