The solar system is in ruins. Earth has disappeared, shattered into pieces. Nothing remains but a giant ring of rocky debris. No one knows why the gateway malfunctioned. It was built to connect our universe to other stars, but only a few colony ships were sent before disaster struck. It is believed that the gateway accidentally made contact with the wrong star—one about to explode. Streams of gravitational waves swept through our solar system, and Earth was instantly destroyed. The gateway then began connecting with random stars, releasing ash from dying worlds, radiation from younger suns, or even attracting alien lifeforms. The solar system began to change.
Humans and their machines survived: pockets of civilization coalesced into warring factions. Many adventurers roam the cold lands in their spaceships, braving death and unknown dangers. There are many tales of monstrous machines and strange creatures lurking on the hapless vessels. Are they real threats or just imaginary?
