The story
place in the near future, when the seas have suddenly and inexplicably risen, causing a large portion of human civilization to sink underwater.
Ikaruga Natsuki, a boy who lost his mother and leg in an accident a few years ago, returns disillusioned from a harsh life in the big city to find his old farmhouse half-sunk at sea.
After losing his family, all he owns are the ship and submarine left to him by his oceanographer grandmother, and her debts.
His only hope of reclaiming the dreams of the future he lost is to take advantage of the opportunity offered to him by the shady debt collector Catherine. They set sail to search for the submerged ruins of his grandmother's laboratory to find a treasure she is said to have left there.
But what they find isn't riches or jewels; it's a strange girl lying asleep in a coffin at the bottom of the sea.

Atri is a robot, but her appearance and wealth of emotions would fool anyone into believing she's a living human. As part of her thanks for being saved, she makes an announcement to Natsuki.
"I want to carry out my master's last command. Until then, I'll be your leg!"
In a small town slowly being submerged by the ocean, an unforgettable summer is about to begin for this boy and this mysterious robot girl...
