Ezio befriends inventor Leonardo da Vinci , who helps Ezio decipher the codex containing Altaïr's diaries and supplies him with advanced weaponry.When Ezio looks at the 30 pages of codex using his Hawkeye gaze , they come together to form a hidden map showing the locations of vaults around the world. Over the course of a decade,
Ezio assassinates the conspirators involved in his father's murder, leaving Rodrigo Borgia , a nobleman and Templar , who has obtained the Apple of Eden and is the focus of the plot. Ezio and other assassins manage to recover the Apple of Eden , but Rodrigo Borgia manages to escape.
During the course of the game, Desmond Miles experiences several unusual events. First, he discovers symbols left behind by his previous test subject, who died because Abstergo employees left him in the Animus for too long . These symbols are similar to those he saw at Abstergo , which conceal a secret history of the world. Later, he dreams that he is Altaïr and pursues Maria , a Templar who appeared earlier in the events of the first game when he almost assassinated her. The bird mistakenly thinks she is someone else. The dream continues and it seems that the bird has fallen in love with her. Finally , after skipping several flashbacks spanning a decade, we arrive at the Vatican, where Rodrigo Borgia is now Pope Alexander VI. Rodrigo Borgia is now the Pope and possesses the Papal Staff , one of the Pieces of Eden. He attempts to use it to enter the vault as the chosen one, the one the manuscript says must enter. Ezio interrupts Rodrigo Borgia and enters the vault himself, changing his life. Ezio finds a hologram of a woman who claims to be Minerva (a Roman goddess) and claims to be from an ancient civilization believed to be from outer space. Minerva tells of great catastrophes that have destroyed their civilization and warns that they may happen again soon.When she was talking to Ezio , she said before disappearing, "The rest is up to you, Desmond Miles ," leaving Ezio in a state of astonishment and confusion, wondering who Desmond Miles is and why she called him by that name . As we mentioned , he is one of the descendants of Altaïr and Ezio, and it seems that Minerva knew that he would search his grandfather's memories .
