Nightmare is the fourth installment in the Alone in the Dark series and continues the story established by the previous installments. Charles Fisk is missing on Shadow Island and presumed dead. His close friend, private investigator Edward Carnby, charters a plane to Shadow Island to investigate his friend's disappearance and discover what the island's owner, Obed Morton, is planning. Aileen Sedrak, an anthropology professor at Boston University, also has an interest in the island—she believes her long-lost father is there. Driven by curiosity and a desire for answers, Sedrak and Carnby fly to the island on Halloween night.
