WCW Mayhem is
based on the popular cable wrestling league founded by Ted Turner, World Championship Wrestling. The game takes many of its wrestlers and combines them with authentic moves, settings, and actual events found in various cable and pay-per-view programs. "Mayhem" is probably an accurate word to describe Electronic Arts' first wrestling game. The game features a TV-style presentation that includes detailed commentary and a special entrance enhanced by pyrotechnics and theme music. The game includes over 50 professional wrestlers from World Championship Wrestling, although you'll need to play the "Quest for the Best" mode to unlock them all. "Quest for the Best" requires you to progress through three classes in an attempt to win the Television Title, the United States Title, and the WCW Heavyweight Title. You can compete on various difficulty levels and unlock hidden wrestlers along the way, including announcer Main Gene Okerlund and head of security Doug Dillinger. Other featured wrestlers include Goldberg, Sting, Diamond Dallas Page, Hollywood Hogan, and Macho Man Randy Savage. Additional options include a "quick start" game, a "main event" match, and the ability to design custom wrestlers in "create a wrestler" mode. As the title suggests, WCW Mayhem isn't limited to the confines of the ring. Thirteen backstage areas are available, including locker rooms, boiler rooms, first aid rooms, and hallways. The game also includes a variety of weapons for use against your opponent, from stun guns and baseball bats to ordinary chairs and trash cans. Single matches can be customized to include the following types of gameplay: singles, or one-on-one fighting; handicap, where one player challenges a team of wrestlers; triangle, where three wrestlers compete against each other; four-on-four dance, where four wrestlers fight to be the last one standing; battle royal, which involves throwing as many wrestlers as possible over the ropes; and tag team, a two-on-two contest. Features: Includes over 50 WCW wrestlers with authentic moves and entrances Take the action outside the ring in 13 backstage areas Includes support for up to four players Manufacturer's Description: Out of control. Out of the ring. Over 50 WCW superstars. Create a wrestler All TV and pay-per-view slots Six match types 12 backstage areas Realistic ring entry Features: Third-person perspective. 3D graphics.
