Information:
"Fading Embers" is the third installment in the This War of Mine: Stories expansion. The expansion features a narrative-driven scenario depicting Anja's story. Living in a war zone and carrying a heavy burden, Anja grapples with the question of what is more important—the survival of human heritage or humanity itself.
The DLC includes new locations in and around Bogoren City, new shelters for people to live in, improved locations from the original game, and new playable survivors and Bogoren citizens. Most importantly, the structure of "Fading Embers" offers new ways to experience the narrative as well as a non-linear structure that leads to multiple endings based on player decisions. Since the main theme revolves around human heritage, new gameplay mechanics introduce collecting art, deciding its fate, and more.
Fading Embers' lead artist, Thomas Kisilevich, explains the new DLC in this way: "The new This War of Mine: Stories episode touches on the theme of cultural heritage and what it means during war. Is it worth preserving even in the darkest times? Or perhaps when we push to our limits, when death and hunger are omnipresent, we change our perception of art and culture. And despite their artistic value—paintings, sculpture, rare books—they become mere tools of survival. Only by destroying them can we postpone our own end. Is that cost justified? Players will have to face those struggles themselves."
