Information:
The Apartment is a unique mix of genres, combining first-person action-adventure gameplay with psychological horror and some intriguing puzzles, all tied together by a dark and heavy story. It's not pure horror, and it's not just a story-driven adventure either.
Investigation:
As Detective James Sachs, you're leading the investigation into several murders in your neighborhood. Young girls have been found dead, arranged, and with strange, nonsensical injuries. It's up to you to discover who these girls were, why they were killed, and find the killer before he strikes again, solving the case. A case that may prove more difficult and challenging than you imagined.
The main gameplay in the action-adventure portion focuses on detective work - exploring crime scenes, finding evidence, connecting clues, completing simple puzzles or physics puzzles, and piecing together the full story.
Not all evidence at a crime scene is crucial in finding the killer. There are also plenty of wrong choices you can make and wrong questions you can ask. So you'll need to pay attention and think about your actions before your investigation ends in a dead end.
Nightmare:
The horror part of "The Apartment" focuses more on psychological horror, rather than jump scares or survival horror. There's no monster chasing you, and there's no threat you can see (but don't worry, there are still plenty of ways you can die in this game). The main goal is to create a disturbing and terrifying atmosphere and make the player feel as uneasy and anxious as possible. Why? What's your goal? Survive? Win? Escape? No matter what happens, you can be sure of one thing now—nothing makes sense anymore.
There's no clear line between the "investigation" and "horror" parts. You can never know what's waiting around the next corner. The worlds of reality and nightmare are slowly merging. But is there even such a thing as reality anymore? Minimum
