Knight's End features a unique combat system, focused on using "guards" as a defensive barrier and a resource used for attacks. This is an evolution of the systems found in Usurper and Moonless Knight. Combat takes place on a timeline rather than flat combat rounds; actions have different guard costs, ability casting times, and cooldowns, all of which help determine the flow of battle.
Active defensive play will allow you to block, parry, guard, or parry incoming attacks. Using the right defensive action type at the right time will significantly reduce or even negate damage; all while building your chain.
Exploit the enemy's mutated weaknesses—they utilize one of three defensive stances. Use the appropriate attack type to significantly increase your damage and earn a chain. Each of your hits will cause some sort of status effect, allowing you to weaken your enemy, or exploit the effects applied to create additional effects. Spend your chains on devastating attacks; the longer the chain, the greater the impact!Minimum
