Sentenced is a narrative virtual reality experience inspired by experiments in social psychology.
Designed to last approximately an hour, the player is assigned as the Executor of the fictional city of Ulrichshavn in early modern Europe. On behalf of your overlords, you will punish those who violate the laws of the kingdom, and your performance will be judged on your competence in several scenarios.
Sentenced is a game about personal conscience and obedience to authority. It is about commitment, institutional violence, and the power structures that determine the behavior of individuals within a system.
Master the art of beheading, become an agent of authority, and enact a divine drama of justice, death, and redemption.
Virtual Reality:
Sentenced is designed for virtual reality. Look the condemned in the eye and defeat the sword that decapitates them. In a traditional game, the act of violence is reduced to the press of a button, and enemies are often criminalized. This will not be the case in Sentenced.
Narrative
: Crowds gather, eagerly awaiting the grisly public spectacle of execution. The city guard announces the crime and sentence to the poor sinner, allowing them to say a few last words. Do they seek divine forgiveness, or are they unrepentant? It then falls to the player, the penniless one, to perform the bloody climax in this drama of sin and redemption.
