Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in
the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the story to one of the most famous battles in history. It is certainly the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition. The game features 20 historical scenarios (from French, Prussian, and British perspectives), 3 multiplayer scenarios, unlimited user-generated sandbox scenarios, and a sandbox campaign, which adds a layer of campaigning to the game, providing more context for the sandbox battles.
At first glance, the player is tasked with moving massive numbers of troops into the positions necessary to crush the enemy, whether through sheer numbers or superior tactics. But in reality, there is much more going on. First and foremost, Scourge of War: Waterloo offers a higher level of realism than any similar title on the market, featuring historical unit names, weapons, formations, and so on. Most importantly, the game simulates the entire chain of command. Players aren't necessarily positioned at the top of this chain (although it's possible), but are often positioned somewhere in the middle. This means that during battle, they receive orders from above, interpret them, formulate a strategy based on them, and then send their messengers to deliver their own orders to the units under their direct control.
