Samurai Champloo departs from the action-fighting genre and introduces a new way to wield the polished samurai sword. Set in Japan with the hip-hop feel of the hit TV series of the same name, this game allows players to revive a "missing link" as one of three playable characters—Mugen, a brash samurai with a break-dance fighting style; Jin, a calculating, Bushido-observant samurai; and a mysterious new character exclusive to the video game. Stranded in the northern land of Izu (present-day Hokkaido) in search of the samurai who smells of sunflowers, players must face off against foreign mercenaries, skilled swordsmen, demonic assassins, mythical beasts, and gang monkeys. The core of the game's unique combat system lies in the innovative combination of music and linked attacks. Players can choose a set of hits based on different hip-hop rhythms, which they can swap at will. Music tracks become comboable, unlocking a wide array of linked attacks that can be executed tactically during combat.
