To increase efficiency, unlock research and abilities, serve wine to your slaves in taverns, and please the gods by building temples and holding banquets.
Grow wheat to make flour, and use that flour to make bread. Or if you don't want to deal with all that, buy bread directly and feed your slaves. You can produce items like wine that cities demand. Or produce items like swords and armor that are in low demand to sell to the Roman army.
In The Roman Way, each scenario is designed to offer a different experience. For example, in the first scenario, you must create a system to properly manage and feed the slaves who regularly come from Rome.
