Radio
General is a real-time strategy game where you can't see your units. Instead, you talk to them over the radio. You receive verbal reports, then issue orders again. Unfortunately for you, war is confusing. Your units may not always know what's going on, and you must make difficult decisions based on these incomplete (and often confusing) reports. This all takes place from a detailed command tent, just like during World War II.
Brace your throat and show us your best command voice. By combining speech recognition with full voice acting, you'll feel like a general on the phone to your troops. (Speech recognition is only available in English and on Windows.)
Behind the scenes, ammunition, morale, camouflage, visibility, and endurance are modeled. Elevation and terrain type will greatly affect battles. A small force will be more successful at launching ambushes in the jungle than a large one. Being on the road greatly improves movement speed, yet doesn't provide much cover and camouflage. Being on a hill will greatly increase your sight distance, while increasing your range and damage. Study the map carefully and decide how to best use your units.
Choose the companies you deploy carefully—each company has unique strengths and weaknesses. Learn the customs and personalities of your companies: overzealous officers may refuse to withdraw. Older companies will acquire specializations, as each unit type possesses unique abilities.
Everyone needs a break, and your companies should rest and replenish between missions. Tired units perform poorly, so be sure to rotate your units.
Play from a perspective unrepresentative of the First Canadian Army. Participate in the disastrous Dieppe Offensive, break through Hitler's and Gothic lines in Italy, land on the beaches of Normandy, and close the Falaise Gap.
Browse hundreds of photos, historical documents, and videos. See how soldiers lived throughout the war and gain a better understanding of their experiences.
Recreate history's most famous battles using the easy-to-use map editor. Share your creations using the Workshop on Steam. Create challenging scenarios for others to try to conquer! Minimum
