Ostranauts
is a detailed simulation of owning and living on a spaceship, in a solar system where honest living is a slow death sentence. It is set in the NEO Scavenger universe, where Earth is suffering a catastrophic collapse, while the rest of the system lives in a capitalist dystopia.
Players will create their captain, use the spoils of their career history to build or restore a working ship, and find ways to keep their diverse crew under control, fuel in their tanks, food on their plates, and debt collectors at bay.
Detailed Custom Ship Design:
Players can build their ship, in any configuration, from functional modular parts. Parts have physical properties, interact with each other, and can wear out over time.
Crew Needs:
Crew members have physiological and emotional needs, ranging from basic needs like food, water, oxygen, and temperature, to more obscure needs like privacy, security, intimacy, and esteem.
Systems Management:
Ostranauts is a detailed simulation, with many interconnected systems. Players will need to manage supplies, emotions, power grids, finances, security, social connections, and more to keep their project alive, both literally and metaphorically.
Crew Intelligence:
Each crew member runs an AI system that constantly makes decisions based on their current needs and past experience. If one crewmate consistently provides comfort and another threatens, the AI will seek out the former when they need safety.
Social "Combat"
: Interacting with the crew uses a system much like NEO Scavenger combat, where players have social moves that can affect their mood and available responses. There are also one-time social moves that can be earned and used within this system to help manage the encounter.
First-person control panels. Minimum
