Mekside VR is a steampunk-inspired creative virtual reality game that allows the player to explore and build landscapes, buildings, or mechanical devices in a large, persistent, and fully physically simulated virtual world, while interacting with its other inhabitants.
The basic building block in Mekside is the cubic voxel, and there are many different materials available with unique properties. The game allows building either as static blocks placed in or on the terrain, or as voxel-based objects that move freely through physics simulation. There are motors and pistons available to connect built shapes, sensors to control or activate motors, and even rockets and turbine engines.
The physics simulation includes aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, so the player can build working airplanes, helicopters, and boats.
To provide an immersive virtual reality experience, Mekside VR uses two handheld controllers for the player to interact with the creative process in the game. The recommended method of movement is free movement using the touchpad of one of the controllers, with the option to set the field of view to make this method of movement work well for most players.
