Insane 2 introduces a number of innovations to the off-road racing genre. In addition to the traditional timed mode, the game features nine other game modes, including the popular "Capture the Flag," "Gate Chase," and "Road Explorer," as well as several new competitions, such as Bounty Hunt, Territory Control, and Helicopter Chase. All of these modes are also available in multiplayer, with up to eight players competing simultaneously.
Over 150 races are held, grouped into championships and cup competitions in Europe, America, Africa, and Antarctica. The game features a huge variety of long-distance tracks: sandy and snowy deserts, impassable highways and off-road tracks, African beaches, and abandoned Antarctic stations.
The game features 18 vehicles of various classes, from buggies to "Bigfoot" monsters, plus an additional prototype class. Rating points earned in races can be used to upgrade any of the vehicles, from a set of 15 options for upgrading the chassis, body, or engine. Each vehicle is equipped with a detailed destruction system. Reaching the end of the track without suffering any losses is a formidable challenge that only a select few can achieve. Adversaries, who constantly create extreme situations, aren't the only danger: players also need to beware of railroad crossings, large trucks, and even lightning in inclement weather.
