Description: In 2001, a small miracle happened in the gaming industry - ICO appeared on the then-new PlayStation 2 platform. Developed deep within one of Sony Computer Entertainment's internal studios, this game was a real surprise even for experienced gamers. And there was something surprising: the fantasy adventure/platformer about a horned boy trying to rescue a princess from a castle was fantastic, no matter how you looked at it. Everything was extraordinary: the incredible graphics for those times, the grace of the architecture of an abandoned castle bathed in sunlight, instead of the usual "level design"; the music of silence and the rustle of leaves, instead of loud, courageous melodies; the touch of hands and the quiet sound of an unfamiliar language, instead of multi-level menu commands and complex controls.
Initial coin offering. The game didn't have a single pre-rendered video, but at first, the beauty of some scenes made many skeptical. However, after getting to know the game, all doubts quickly disappeared.
The game has the ability to make you fall in love at first sight. But that wasn't the main charm - Kenji Kaido and Fumito Ueda managed to raise the level of empathy between the player and the characters to an incredible level, empathy that makes you watch the final credits until the last word and sit for several minutes afterward in complete silence, absorbing what just happened. Needless to say, the game quickly became a critical favorite, receiving rave reviews almost everywhere. But... and here's the ubiquitous "but" - it was not destined to become a bestseller. It's already difficult to determine the reason: either the unsuccessful work of Sony's PR department, or the mass disinterest of the gaming public in unusual projects, or simply an evil fate. Nevertheless, it found its player, moreover, in certain circles it quickly gained "cult" status.
Additional information: The European version contains a number of changes that were not included in the American version.
Bonuses (unlocked after the first playthrough):
- The ability to play with two players (the second player controls Yorda) (possible in the pause menu)
- Translation of Yorda's speech
- Secret weapon - a laser sword (in addition to the mace, available in both versions)
- Photo filters (activated in the pause menu)
- A small addition to the endgame
. In addition, in the American edition, some puzzles were simplified or removed altogether. Some locations have been changed.
