The Cotton series is a line of shoot 'em up video games developed by Success with a long history of releases in arcades and on home consoles. Debuting in 1991, the Cotton games helped establish the visual style of shoot 'em ups, sometimes called cute 'em ups. Instead of the warships and battlefields typical of most shoot 'em ups, the Cotton games put players in control of a broomstick-riding witch and task them with fighting through magical, haunted kingdoms. Cotton games have appeared on a variety of consoles, including the NEC PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16, Super Nintendo, Mega Drive/Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, PlayStation, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Dreamcast. There is also a bakenko game featuring Cotton available for the PlayStation 2. Most recently, Cotton appears as a hidden character in the Nintendo DS game Rondo of Swords. Each Cotton game has a unique storyline loosely tied to the other games in the series. All of these stories revolve around a young witch named Cotton's obsession with a magical candy called "Willow." In a typical Cotton game, Cotton will begin her journey through the game's stages hoping to be rewarded with Willow at the end. However, when the game ends, she almost always ends up empty-handed. The character Cotton is always very childish. The funny scenes she appears in have made her a favorite with Japanese anime fans. Fantastic Night Dreams – Cotton was originally released as an arcade game on the Sega System 16B in 1991. Later, in 1993, it was ported to both the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 as a Super CD-ROM game, as well as to the Sharp X68000 home computer. The Super CD-ROM version, while slightly toned down from the original in graphics and difficulty, includes a remixed soundtrack, as well as voice acting in the Japanese version. The X68000 version, while retaining the arcade version's soundtrack, featured several heavily modified enemy and boss patterns. Finally, another PlayStation version, Cotton Original, was released in 1999, using its own soundtrack and again taking some liberties in reproducing the arcade version's gameplay. Additionally, the Neo Geo Pocket Color handheld console also received a miniature version in 2000. The Turbografx-16 and Neo Geo Pocket Color versions of this game are the only games in the Cotton series released in America. Fantastic Night Dreams: Cotton is a 2D side-scrolling shooter in which the player assumes the role of the young witch Cotton, who sets off on her magic broomstick on a quest to obtain her favorite candy. Fortunately for us, her obsession puts her in the path of numerous world-threatening dangers, which she must destroy in standard gameplay. The game features an experience-gaining system where the more enemies the player kills, the more they can upgrade their weapons by collecting power crystals. Players can also charge their weapon for special attacks and enlist the help of Silk, Cotton's magical sidekick who can form into various "choice" configurations. Manufacturer's Description: Since its debut in March 1991 as an arcade game, this side-scrolling shooter is the first Cotton favorite that makes a big comeback in the PlayStation version. A smash hit with Cotton's good charm and fairy sidekick Silk.In addition, the show is seen in vivid and good visuals for the first time in Cotton Tomboy! Limited for the first order, I will place a special one-on-one cup. Features: Third-person perspective. 2D graphics. Cartoon graphics. Fantasy theme.
