While playing as Jodie, the game includes interactive objects marked with a white dot, which can be interacted with by tilting the joystick in their direction. If Jodie must perform a certain action, icons pop up on-screen prompting the player to press and/or hold certain buttons on the controller. Conversation prompts float in the air, defaulting to a specific option if too much time passes before selecting. During action sequences, such as chases or hand-to-hand combat, the cinematic slows down as Jodie performs the physical maneuver; during this time, the player must select the direction Jodie is moving and push the joystick in that direction to complete the action. Other sequences require real-time stealth, which has the player sneaking Jodie through environments while coordinating certain actions with Aiden. Failing some action sequences will alter the course of the chapter (and sometimes subsequent chapters) and, in some cases, result in the death of an NPC.
